Health and Safety Achievements
ABB/ExxonMobil Demolition and Remediation Project in the United Kingdom
- The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) recently presented a Gold Award for Occupational Health and Safety to the ABB/ExxonMobil Demolition and Remediation Project in the United Kingdom. The award recognizes organizations with high levels of performance and well-developed occupational health and safety management systems and culture, while also demonstrating outstanding risk-mitigation efforts and low levels of error, harm, and loss over a number of years.
Baton Rouge Polyolefins Plant
- ExxonMobil Chemical Company's Baton Rouge Polyolefins Plant earned the National Petrochemical and Refiners Association Distinguished Safety Award for the Seventh consecutive year.
Baytown Olefins Plant
- Baytown Olefins Plant (BOP) is proud to have been a part of the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA) Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) since 1993. Most recently, BOP was awarded the VPP STAR to further highlight the site’s long-standing commitment to exemplary occupational safety and health.
Beaumont Refinery and Chemical Plant
- On July 30, the Beaumont Chemical Plant commemorated the site's successful restart following 10 months of hurricane repairs by receiving its eighth Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) STAR award from the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). STAR status is the highest VPP designation awarded by OSHA and indicates a facility has achieved injury rates below its industry national average, and demonstrated that its safety and health management systems are exemplary. STAR participants commit to a process of continuous safety improvements that will lead to an even safer work environment.
- Beaumont was also recognized with a VPP STAR of Excellence award, recognizing the site as a benchmark for others in safety performance.
- Beaumont Refinery and Chemical Plant both achieved a total recordable incident rate of 1.5 or less with no workplace fatalities and earned an Award for Meritorious Safety Performance from the National Petrochemical and Refiners Association (NPRA).
- Beaumont Refinery and Chemical Plant both achieved a 25 percent or greater reduction in total recordable incident rate with no workplace related fatalities and earned a Gold Award from the NPRA.
- Beaumont Refinery and Chemical Plant both achieved 1 million man-hours or more without a lost work day case involving days away from work, and earned an Award for Safety Achievement for Hours from the NPRA.
- Beaumont Chemical Plant worked one or more years without a lost work case, and earned an Award for Safety Achievement for Years from the NPRA.
- Beaumont Chemical Plant achieved a period of 12 consecutive months without the occurrence of an occupational injury or illness, and earned the National Safety Council’s Perfect Record Award.
- Beaumont Refinery and Chemical Plant both demonstrated a total lost workday case incident rate equal or less than 50 percent of the Bureau of Labor Statistics rating, and earned the Occupational Excellence Achievement Award from the National Safety Council.
Chalmette Refinery
- The Chalmette Refinery received numerous awards from the National Petrochemical and Refiners Association including the Award for Meritorious Safety Performance, Gold Award, Award for Safety Achievement – Hours, andAward for Safety Achievement – Years.
ExxonMobil House in Leatherhead
- For the seventh year running, ExxonMobil House in Leatherhead received an Order of Distinction from the Royal Society for Prevention of Accidents.
ExxonMobil Production Company
- ExxonMobil Production Company’s U.S. operations earned the Gas Processors Association (GPA) 2009 Company Safety Award and the President’s Award for Safety Improvement.
ExxonMobil Chemical's Kemya joint venture
- The National Safety Council of the United States recently presented its Perfect Record Award for Occupational Health and Safety to ExxonMobil Chemical's Kemya joint venture in Saudi Arabia. Kemya has received this award in each of the past six years.
ExxonMobil Chemical at Fawley
- Investors in People, a national standard for the United Kingdom, awarded Fawley the Prestigious Investors in People Award in recognition of the link between the training and development of staff and the achievement of business objectives.
International Marine Transportation Limited
- International Marine Transportation (IMT) Limited, ExxonMobil’s marine transportation U.K. based affiliate, received the 2009 Sword of Honour from the British Safety Council for the ninth consecutive year. The Sword of Honour recognizes 40 organizations that have implemented safety systems that have received a five star audit rating and are among the best in the world.
- Both IMT and SeaRiver Maritime achieved the British Safety Council's Five-star rating for 9 and 6 consecutive years respectively.
Mont Belvieu Plastics Plant (MBPP)
- As a testament to MBPP’s outstanding safety and health programs, the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) awarded the site the Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) Star Among STARs – Star of Excellence award.
SeaRiver Maritime, Inc.
- SeaRiver Maritime, Inc. received the Jones F. Devlin Award from the Chamber of Shipping of America for operating at least two years without a lost-time injury.
Shawnee Films Plant
- ExxonMobil Chemical's Shawnee Films Plant was recently named a Star among STARs under the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration's (OSHA) Voluntary Protection Program (VPP). It marks the plant's sixth certification under the program since 1985, when it was the first facility in Oklahoma to be recognized.
Wakayama Refinery
- At the end of 2008, the Wakayama refinery achieved 1.8 million work hours without an employee lost-time incident and received the Longest Employee Incident Free Record in the oil industry from the Japan Industrial Safety Association.
Singapore Chemical Plan
- ExxonMobil was the top winner in the 2008 Responsible Care Awards presented by the Singapore Chemical Industry Council (SCIC), honored in all six categories including one Excellence Award for Pollution Prevention, three Gold Awards and two Achievement Awards.
Environmental Achievements
ExxonMobil Fairfax, VA Headquarters
- For the second consecutive year, the Fairfax office building earned an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Energy Star award, in recognition of Northern Virginia Facilities' 2008 energy efficiency efforts.
Baytown Complex
- The Baytown Complex won an Exceptional Merit award in the Energy Efficiency Program – Plant Site category from the American Chemical Council for its Utilities Real Time Optimizer (RTO). This optimizer balances steam and power loads to minimize energy consumption for the complex by satisfying all steam system demands across the three sites.
Mont Belvieu Plastics Plant (MBPP)
- MBPP was honored with the American Chemical Council’s award in the Environmental Impact – Plant Site category for its Natural Gas to Flare Controls project.
SeaRiver Maritime, Inc.
- SeaRiver Maritime, Inc. received the Environmental Achievement Award from the Chamber of Shipping of America for operating at least two years without an environmental incident.
Fife Ethylene Plant
- The Fife Ethylene Plant in Scotland received two environmental certifications from the Wildlife Habitat Council in 2009; the Corporate Land for Learning certification for successful site-based environmental education programs and the Wildlife at Work certification for employee involvement.
